MILITARY BOXING
LAST NIGHT’S CONTESTS FINALS ON SATURDAY The boxing tournament of the Auckland Military Sports Association was continued again last evening at the Drill Hall, Rutland Street. The semifinals and finals will be staged tomorrow evening. The organisation of the tournament is all that could be desired and a large crowd appreciated the way in which the 31 bouts were staged. Two bantam-weights, Connolly and Lawrence, put up the best fight of the night, both battling hard with solid blows to head and body. An extra round was ordered and the decision went to Lawrence. In the lightweights, Spicer and Manson gave a great display. Later in the evening Spicer was opposed by Martin, but the decision went to Martin after a very close fight. Cooke had two wins, gaining the decision over Pierce after an extra round. The fly-weights, Mens and Fraei, also made a good fight. In the territorials the light-heavy-weight final between Gifford and McLean saw some good work and heavy hitting. The fight was close all the way and the decision was in favour of Gifford. Mr. T.
