THE METHVEN CUP
OF the 46 candidates for the Cup, 15 are on the limit,_but when acceptance day arrives several, no doubt, will decline the r engagement. Colene Pointer is a mare that has performed creditably and one would expect her to do well off the front of a 4.415 class. So far, Acre has not shown a desire fer a two-mile journey, but Yoicks should be at home over that distance. In his races Orphan has shown a lot of speed at the business-end, and has only lost: through being too green. On Ashburton form, Bingen Patch should he tired at the end of a journey, so should Planet. Epigram has shown that he appreciates a distance and though the task from 48yds behind looks big, he would only have to enjoy a decent passage to be knocking at the door at the finish. Siungleam is another who is racing into good form and should have a say in the settlement of j th« affair. riill I At present the Methven Cup I promises to be a real contest, I and a hard one to win.
