Cfc&teful for his return and apprecis - tlv* for the support accorded him at th* polls Mr. Lee Martin motored in haste to Hvntly last evening, aft< r the declaration of the result, accompanied by Mr. W. J.' Jordan, M.P., arid supported by Mr. Walter Nash, mi.tionil secretary of the Labour Party . Mr. Martin briefly returned thanks to a. large group in the main street. The party then proceeded to the Town Pali. A temporary halt was made at the picture theatre and, am d thunderous applause, the first Labour xnenber for the district appeared c n the platform. In returning thanks Mr. Martin pa: d a compliment to his opponents for clea n fighting. He did not consid€‘r it a personal victory, but for the party he represented. Mr. Jordan stated that the Goverrlient will have to fight a fight of policy end not abuse in future. In conclusion, at the call of Mr. M2. George, chairman of the Town Board, cheers for the newly-elected member were given and the whole audience loss and sang “For He’s a Jolly Good 1‘ellow.” Mr. Martin makes no secret of his admiration for his Huntly supporters who laboured for his success and o tiiio experience of the member for Manukau who so ably assisted him.
