MOTOR CAMP
MOUNT HOBSON PROPOSAL A.A.A. TO FIND £1,500 To enable a site on Mount Hobson reserve to be prepared as a visiting motorists’ camp, during the Christmas to Easter holiday period, the Auckland Automobile Association proposes to finance the City Council to the extent of £1,500, until next financial year. This was disclosed in a report to the council last evening by the Mayor, Mr. G. Baildon, who asked that he and Cr. Brinsden should be authorised to complete negotiations with the association on these lines. ‘I don’t think it is dignified,” remarked Cr. Crookes, “even while I appreciate their generosity.” The Mayor: “We have borrowed hundreds of thousands of pounds, and paid interest for it. We are getting this for nothing.” The proposal was referred to the Finance Committee.
