SHORE ROWING CLUB
HEALTHY FINANCES NEW OFFICERS ELECTED A record number of members attended the annual meeting of the North Shore Rowing Club in the pavilion at Devonport on Wednesday evening. The president, Mr. J. Farrell, was in thd chair and commented on the fact hat the “roll-up” augured well for the coming season. Last year had seen the. lub make a wonderful recovery and he: hoped that Mr. D. Davies, a single scull enthusiast, who was showing great: atomise, would yet carry the club colours to championship place. The membership is now 66 and with regatta winning of £72 10s nett for last season, the lira .ee* were reported healthy. The plant had been over hauled and was in goed order and the incoming committee was instructed to get the clubhouse put .n repair. The club assets were set down in the balance sheet as being worth £77!). A scheme fer running dances to buy r.ew boats has so far realised £69 and the ladies conducting the scheme were heartily thanked. The club is now in ils 54th year and ranks as the oldest elut on the Waitemata. The officers for are:—Patron, Dr. H. C. Bennett: president, Mr. J. Farrell: commodore, Mr. C. Seagar; secretary, Mr. X. G. Cameron; assistant secretary, Mr. L. B. MeCa’.'um; captain, Mr. S. Butland; deputy captain, Mr. R. Follas; treasurer, Mr. E. J. MeLoughlin: delegates to A.R.A.. Messrs. Follas, Graham and Davies; committee-. Messrs. Duggan. Dean, Wrigley, S. Challinor, Norris, Oliver, D. Davits. Stead, Everson and Stevenson. In reoogn tiort of services rendered Messrs. Seagar. P-. R. Graham (retiring club captain ' and W. H. Oliver were made life members. ThA committee is to devise a shield to present to Mr. Cameron, secretary, for his hard work for the club. BURGESS MEMORIAL The North Shore Rowing Club is trt have a memorial to the memory of the late Mr. Edward Burgess, who was one of the foundation members of the club and maintained his connection with it for 53 years. Few other clubs can show such an example of lifelong support. Mr, Burgess, whose father was pilot: in the early days of the harbour, was a keeh oarsman and had the honour of <!isc*o\ ing Sullivan, who came to championship rank in England later. Mr. Burgess found him at Waiwera. The memorial is to be a cup or shield for first-year rowers. BID FOR CHAMPIONSHIP Mr. D. Davies, of North Shore Rowing Club has landed a new shell from Get*. Touns, Sydney. It was taken out of tfco case yesterday. He proposes making 51 bid for championship honours. evening the club presented him with a pair of sculls and offered its best: wishc* for success.
