FIGHT IN MEXICO. —In a combat with Federal troops 34 rebellious Roman Catholic extremists were killed in the State of Jalisco. A priest who had been taken prisoner was executed. —A. and N.Z.-Sun. RAIN SOAKS N.S.W.—Soaking rains have fallen over nearly the whole of the State, and have considerably brightened the prospects for the harvest. Queensland has also had further rain. —A. and N.Z. SECRETARY FOR WAR. —The British Secretary of State for War, Sir Laming Worthington-Evans, will leave England on November 13 on a visit to India. He will inspect the British units stationed in that country and will be absent until the New Year.— British Official Wireless. They will inj elude the abolition of six Ministries, I the reorganisation of the civil service j and the sale or lease of State enterj prises to private persons or semi-offi-I cial but independent companies.—A. and N.Z. | DEED THAT LED TO WAR.—Milan Ziganovitch, who was implicated in the murder of the Archduke Francis Ferdinand at Serajevo in 1914, has died at Uskub, aged 60. Serbia refused the demand made by Austria-Hungary for his extradition in the famous ultimatum which precipitated the Great War. —A. and N.Z. BRITISH UNEMPLOYED.—OfficiaI returns show a further reduction of 4,500 in the registered unemployed on September 19 as compared with the previous week. Although the total slightly exceeds 1,000,000 it is 483.000 less than at the corresponding date last year, when the figures were affected by the coal-mining dispute.—British Official Wireless. BREAK WITH RUSSIA. —Mr. Walter Citrine, general secretary of the Trades Union Congress, was asked whether any communication had been received from the All-Russian Council of Trades Unions with regard to the recent decision of the Trades Union Congress to discontinue co-operation with the Russian trade unions. He replied that no communication of any kind had been received from Russia.— British Official Wireless.
