Apiaries Act
AMENDMENTS TO LAW (THE SUN’S Parliamentary Reporter.) . WELLINGTON, Friday. Amendments to the Apiaries Act. for which beekeepers have agitated for some time, were introduced into the House of Representatives to-day and read the first time. Mr. E. T. Howard, Christchurch East, asked if there was a sting in it, and the Hon. O. J. Hawken, Minister of Agriculture, said “Hardly that, but the measure consolidates and to some extent amends the Acts of 1908 and 1913.” Registration, instead of being made renewable every three years, is made continuous, so long as the beekeeper occupies the same premises. An effort is made to clear various districts of foul-brood, and provision is made in this Bill for penalties for those who shift bees from one district to another without the consent of an inspector. Clauses are also in the measure governing the control of honey for human consumption.
