RUGBY TACTICS BY WIRELESS
Gp HE extent to which broadcasting and wireless can be used was well exemplified last Saturday week while the ' steamer Tofua teas en route from Auckland to Suva (says the “Fiji Times''). On that steamer was Mr. Meredith, the Crown Prosecutor, of Auckland, who is the sole selector of the Auckland Rugby XV.. who were playing an important match against Wellington. The play u>as broadcast from Eden Park as the game progressed and picked up by a receiving set on the Tofua. where Mr. Meredith 'leas " listening-in Auckland's prospects did not look too rosy at half-time. Mr. Meredith was of opinion that his team were not adopting the right tactics. Accordingly he wirelessed to the Awanui station, giving advice as to the methods of play to be followed in the second half. This message was telephoned to Eden Park and received by the team before returning to the field. The result of the instructions received from mid-Pacific was that Auckland was enabled to win the match.
