VALUABLE HORSES KILLED
STRUCK BY ENGINE DRIVER’S NARROW ESCAPE Press Association. HAWERA, To - day. Two horses were killed in the Patea railway yards yesterday morning. They were caught on the line by a train entering the station about 200 yards north of the platform. The animals were part of a team of four drawing a contractor's dray. The driver, Ernest Pullen, had a narrow escape in trying to save the team. He was just able to swing the three leaders at right angles to the line when the two were cut down by the engine. The horses were owned by W. C. Olenny, Ltd., and valued at £7O. They were not insured.
