ELECTRIFYING RUGBY
PONSONBY’S DAY OUT MATCH AT TAUMARUNUI (From Our Own Correspondent) TAUMARUNUI, Wednesday. When Auckland’s premier team, the Ponsonby representatives, were announced as staged against Taumarunui, at Taumarunui, it was generally expected that the latter team would be well beaten; but the fact that the Auckland visitors ran up a score of 47 to 6 occasioned a good deal of surprise. Taumarunui’s players were thoroughly downed by a team vastly superior in every department of the game, and which gave a whirlwind exhibition. The match, which is the last big fixture of the local season, attracted a large attendance. The Ponsonby players were officially welcomed on Wednesday morning at the Council Chambers by the Mayor, Mr. G. E. Manson, who thanked the team for its visit, and wished them an enjoyable time. Mr. W. Johns, president of the Rugby Sub-Union, also spoke, and Mr. F. Lucas, for the visitors, returned thanks, and assured the Mayor that the team would endeavour to give as good an exhibition of Rugby as possible. They did.
