FIRE BRIGADE BALL A SUCCESSFUL EVENT j The Raetihi Volunteer Fire Brigade j [ held a grand ball in the Druids' Hall the other evening, and it was gratify- j ing to see that the men who give so i much service to the community in helping to protect life and property were j so well supported. The firemen were in uniform and they were supported by visiting mem - j bers of the Ohakune and Taihape Fire Brigades. The function was the first of its | ! kind held by the brigade, and the sue- j ! cess of the evening was largely duo ] to their untiring efforts in making arI rangements to give a good evening's ; entertainment at a popular price. Those who attended speak in generous terms of approbation of the event, and the charm of the evening will linger long in their memories. The hall and supper room were effectively decorated with streamers, j greenery, spring flowers and Chinese . lanterns, the whole of which made a ; beautiful setting for the function. The music was supplied by the Blue j

Bird Orchestra and was greatly appredated. Messrs. E. Buckley and A. Head acted as masters of ceremonies and ful*- ; filled their duties in a most creditable , manner. An enjoyable supper was provided by the ladies’ committee, who had the 1 catering in their hands, and they are to be congratulated upon the manner in which arrangements were carried out. Those in charge were Mesdames Sandford. Ash well, Green, Heeney, Dobson, and Misses Buckley and Kelly, assisted by many willing workers. The novelty dancers were a source of great interest and attracted much attention. The prizewinners were as follow: Lucky spot: Misses D. Legge and Mr. Geo. Ball. Monte Carlo: Miss Buckley and Fireman Rose. Spot waltz: Miss P. Curtis and Mr. 1 W. X. Gordon. The proceeds from the dance will lie devoted to the brigade’s working uniform fund. Among those present were: Miss Benbow. black panne velvet Miss M. May, heliotrope frock of chiffon ; velvet. Mrs. Sandford. beech brown crepe fie chine frock. Mrs. Frane, vieux rose frock of crepe de chine. Miss B. Wilson, rose pink panne velvet frock.
