The company reports the butter market to be keeping firm and steady a t between 182 s and 184 s, and the market position is described as a strong one, with a possibility of a further appreciation in values in the near future. In regard to cheese, the company reports that advices have indicated a quiet market during the past -week, but this quietness apparently does not carry any suggestion of weakness, as prices have, if anything, appreciated slightly during the last week or ten days. Joseph Nathan and Co. report butter quiet at 182 s; cheese firm at from 104 s to 105 s. Thames Gas Company. —After making provision for depreciation and maintenance, the profits of the Thames Gas Company for the year ended Julv 31, 1927 amounted to £495. This, with £1,041 brought forward from last year, makes a total of £1,536 available for distribution. The manager reports: “The crosscut at the 400 ft level has been advanced 20ft for the week, making the total distance from the new reef 264 ft. The country is tighter and requires more holes to the round, but is still of the same favourable description for gold. The Cameron pump will be lowered into the sump today and everything is ready for pumping out preparatory to sinking.” COUNTRY SALES The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Company report holding stock sales during the week at Westfield, Kaukapakapa, and Whitford; also special pig sales at Pukekohe and Waiuku. Values at all sales were on a par with Westfield rates.
