HARBOUR BRIDGE
10,000 SIGNATURES ON PETITION WORK OF THE COMMITTEE According to a report made to the meeting of the Bridge Committee last evening, approximately 10,000 signatures have so far been attached to the petition to Parliament in favour of the proposed bridge across ti 2 Waitemata. MR. E. G. SKEATES, Mayor of Birkenhead, presided and welcomed the new members —Mr. G. IK. O’Hallcrac., representing the Takapuna Riding on the Waitemata County Council; Mr. PL H. Grevillc representing the Belmons - Bayswater Progressive Association, and Mr. J. Wallace, representign the Takapuna Ratepayers’ Association. A communication was received from the Auckland Chamber of Commerce flski«>g; how the bridge was; to be financed and interest and other charges met. A letter was received from the Auckland Harbour Board intimating that it preferred not to be officially represented on the bridge committee at present, and that it would not make a contribution, but prepared to receive a deputation in committee. Til 3 Chamber of Commerce and th«* Harbour Board are to be informed ilw. a committee had been appointed to collect general information and statistics regarding the proposed bridge. A sub-committee, consisting of Messrs. E. G. Skeates, chairman, Frank Finch, C.E.. F. E. Powell, C.E , Oscar Moller, A. Blampied and G. E. O’Hailoran, was appointed for this purpose. Messrs, lit H. Greville, R. Martin and J. B. Tonar were appointed to arrange for progapanda and finance. A suggested wireless address on the proposed bridge was referred to Mr. Blampied to arrange. Future meetings of the committee, it was resolved, are to be held in alter - nate months.
