UNEMPLOYED FUNDS
FURTHER ADDITIONS SOME GENEROUS OFFERS The Mayors’ fund has now increased to £1,194 15s, further donations being:
The Auckland Amateur Operatic Company yesterday offered to give the proceeds of one of its concerts, the front of the house staff offering its services free, and J. C. Williamson, Ltd., offering to forego the rent. Owing to difficulties connected with advertising, with a possible injury to the societies’ receipts, the finance subcommittee thought it inadvisable to take a risk, but thanked the society and others concerned for their fine offer. A concert in aid of the fund will be given in the Town Hall concert chamber to-morrow evening by inmates of the Jubilee Institute for the Blind, assisted by a number of leading Auckland artists. The City Council’s tramway and outdoor staffs are arranging to make regular contributions to the fund, as the salaried officers have done already. The committee wishes it known that no persons are authorised to canvass for subscriptions to the fund. If any official collectors are appointed, the fact will be publicly notified.
