TRAINS HELD UP
WAGON DERAILED LIMITED EXPECTED AT 3 P.M. INFORMATION was received in Auckland this morning that the combined Wellington-Auckland express and the Limited would not reach Auckland until 3 o’clock this afternoon. Soon after six o’clock last evening a wagon on a mixed goods train left the rails about three miles north of Mart on. About, half a mile of the permanent way was torn up by the derailed wagon and blocked the line for traffic. The train, which was concerned in the accident, left Ohakune at 12.30 o’clock yesterday for Marton. All traffic both north and south was blocked, but repair gangs were sent out and cleared the line as quickly as possible. By the time the south-bound trains reached the scene of the mishap the line was almost clear. The Limited and the earlier expresses were combined and sent on to Auckland this morning. The train was eight hours late leaving Ohakune this morning. Motor buses were employed to take the passengers on the train to Marton. The cause of the derailment is unknown. A similar mishap occurred in the vicinity some months ago. The line where the accident occurred was tested only yesterday.
