KNOCKED DOWN BY UNKNOWN MOTORIST
ELDERLY WOMAN KILLED SMALL BOY INJURED A N slderly woman, Mrs. Elizabeth Sarah Short, was fatally injure 1 through being knocked down by a motor-ear at the corner of Musukau and Owens Road, Epuoni, shortly after seven o'clock iMt evening. Her grandson, Leslie Hasking, aged 10, who was also lilruck by the car, had his left leg badly cut. Detectives are searching for the driver of the car. Rain was falling at the time of the accident, and It Is stated that the driver of the car, after the collision, switched off the lights and made off hto the darkness, without making any attempt to attend to the injured people or to obtain help. Mrs. Short had just left her home at 15 Owens Road, and was about to board a tramcar, when she was knocked over. The motor did. not stop. Sic was taken to the Auckland Hospital, suffering from injuries to her head and her left lung. She died about 10 p.m. without regaining consciousness. The boy's condition this morning was stated to be quite satisfactory. Mrs. Short came to New Zealand TO years ago, when only two years old. She lived mostly in the Wellington district. She leaves her husband, Mr. W S. Short, and six children. Mr. Short was at one time secretary of the Public AVorks Department.
