HABITS OF WHALES

RESEARCH IN ATLANTIC MUCH NEW KNOWLEDGE British Wireless—Press assu Copyright RUGBY, Saturday. The research ship Discovery, the famous vessel in which Captain Scott made his South Polar expedition, is due at Falmouth to-morrow on her return from the South Atlantic. For the last two years scientists on hoard have been conducting numerous investigations, particularly in relation to the movements and habits of whales. The Falklands Islands and their dependencies, South Georgia and the South Orkneys, are among the places which have been visited. The furthest point south reached by the Discovery was 65 degrees, in the neighbourhood of Anvers Island. Much scientific knowledge has been obtained and the examination of the results will occupy the members of the scientific staff for some months before they return to the dependencies. The ship is a floating laboratory. She was specially constructed to resist icepressure.—A. and N.Z.
