LATE COMMERCIAL

THE STOCK MARKET OUTLOOK IN WAIKATO PRICES REVIEWED (From Our Own Correspondent.) HAMILTON. To-day. St-ring lias made its appearance in earnest in the Waikato, and everywhere the pastures are very green. Tho splendid condition of the .and can n 6 doubt be attributed in the main to the extensive use of fertilisers in the past year. In all directions the pastures arc in great heart. The stock market ihiw? an upward tendency, ancl there is a keen demand for nil classes of store sheep and cattle, according to a prominent dealer’s ‘observations. Sales during the past week, while not being largi*. have been well attended in all cases. High prices ruled, and in fact, unless there is an advance in butter-fat prices, farmers who have bought will net get much more than their money back on their dealings. This is especially the case in respect of store cows. The fat stock market has shown a big decline in prices. S-a far back as the informant could remember, fat stock were never sold so low at the end of September. The prices ruling to-day are not equal to those at tho end of July, and the consequence is that a large number of farmers, who have eaten off tlieir turnip crops, are going tc got very little return. In a lesser degree the same remarks apply to sheep, though at present prices still pay the producer. SHEEP AND LAMBS The new season’s crop of 1; mbs look exceptionally well, and should the season continues favourably the Waikato ! shot Id produce some excellent fat | lambs this year. There is little business being done ip ! the forward delivery of breeding ewer, and wethers. Most of these come from the East Coast district, and as far away as Gisborne. Sales are be : ng made equivalent to about £ 1 in the paddock for five-year-old ewes, delivery in January. Two-tootli ewes liave been changing hands at as high a value as 255, am. two-tooth wethers have been selling at I 18s to 225, with four-tooth wethers at ! Cl o 21s. At these prices there is iloC la great dea 1 of profit at freezing prices, but no doubt large numbers will be held, for the 1923 winter market.
