GROWTH OF OTAHUHU
BIG BUILDING PROGRAMME The railway department has subdivided a block of land in the Otahuhu Borough, adjoining Sturgess Park, containing 72 sections, and it is the intention of the authorities to erect the houses, and sell them to the employees, who will be engaged in the new workshops. The sinking fund will be included in the regular rentals. Other subdivisions of interest are Lippiatt’s block of approximately 50 sections, through which a road will be formed from Walmsley Road to Nikau Street, and through Mr. Hall’s subdivision of 20 odd sections. It is proposed to carry the new road from Walmsley Road to the Great South Road, thereby giving direct access to Nikau Road, which will prove a great convenience to the travelling public. Yet another indication of the continued growth of this suburb is the installation of a daily attendance by the National Bank of New Zealand. This is in addition to the operations of the Bank of New Zealand, and the Auckland Savings Bank already established there. Parents who have children attending the already crowded public school at Otahuhu, will be pleased to hear, that in addition to the extra room which is to be added to the present school, the department is going to build another separate school to meet he rapidly-growing needs of the district. The present school has accommodation for about 650 pupils, and the number on the roll is round about 850.
