SUSPICIOUS FIRES
CAMBRIDGE ALARMED (From Our Oxen Correspondent.J CAMBRIDGE, To-day. A few weeks ago what appeared to be a de.ib€*rate attempt made to destroy the residence of Mr. Frank Swayne, of Fencourt, near Cambridge, was frustrated just in time. Last night a similar attempt was made to burn the large handsome residence of Mr. R. Swayne, also of Fencourt. Miss Swayne retired at 8.40 p.m. and about 9 o’clock heard footsteps, anc on investigation found a fire had been lighted against the outer wall of her bedroom, a bundle of fern placed against the wall was ablaze. At the rear of the house an old sack, saturated with kerosene, was discovered, and an empty bottle nearby. The police are investigating the case. A number of private houses in the district have been destroyed by fire, and it is believed that nearly all outbreaks were due to a fire fiend. Much alarm has been created throughout the district*
