Commenting on the Canterbury Education Board’s criticism of the department, Mr. Strong, Director of Education, took exception to the statement that the department showed no desire to co-operate with the boards, which was the more astounding as it'was made on the day when he conferred for three hours with the representatives of the board. As to the alleged multiplicity of civil servants, he declared that if his department was staffed as liberally as that of the board’s, it would be thought necessary that the departmental office staff be increased by one-half.
