OUT OF DEBT
EAST TAMAKI CELEBRATES The East Tamaki Public Hall presented a new aspect in its varied career ?.ast night, when the directors of the East Tamaki Co-operative Dairy Company, Ltd., tendered a smoke concert to the suppliers of the factory and residents of the district. The hall was decorated with an abundance of streamers twining in all directions, the walls being heavily decked with nikau palms and lilies. The large number of * suppliers and their friends fully taxed the seating capacity of the hall. The tables presented a very inviting appearance, being laden with the necessary goods to make the evening’s function a success, Mr. F. M. Waters, chairman of the Manukau County Council, occupied the chair. The evening opened with the usual loyal toast of “The King,” after which the East Tamaki Co-operative Dairy Company, Ltd., was proposed- by the chairman, who eulogised the good work that had been accomplished by the company, and explained that the evening had been tendered by the directors in commemoration of the company having reached the very happy position of being free of all liabilities and debt. Mr. T. D. Ormiston, chairman of directors, and Mr. W. C. Watts, secretary of the company, responded. “The manager and staff of the factory” was* proposed by Mr. T. D. Ormiston and responded to by Mr. A. Baird, manager, and Mr. Wright, on behalf of the staff. Mr. Spragg proposed the health of the “Dairy Division,” eulogising the good work accomplished by that most effeient department of the Government. This was ably responded to by Messrs. Stewart and Wainscott. The toast of “kindred factories” was proposed by Mr. Jas. Ross and Mr. Phillips, chairman of Te Aroha Dairy Company, Ltd., responded. “Representatives of London and Continental buyers” was proposed by Mr. Robert Dawson and responded to by Messrs. T. D. Collings and F. H. Leonard. The toast of the “Manukau County Council” fell to Mr. Blake, and was responded to in a happy speech by Mr. F. M. Waters, chairman of the council. The toast of the “Civil servants” was proposed by Mr. Parker and responded to by Mr. Chappell, railways. “The performers” was entrusted to Mr. J. Franklin and responded to by Mr. Alan McElwain. The health of the chairman, proposed by Mr. Watts, concluded a very pleasant and enjoyable function.
