FILM MERGER

BIG INTERESTS COMBINE N.Z. AND AUSTRALIAN MARKET MR. TV. F. GALE, until recently manager of the Government Savings Bank of Neio South "Wales, teas largely responsible, it is stated, for the merger of Cinema Art Films, Australia, Exhibitors’ Alliance Eiltns. New Zealand, Ltd., and the U.F.A. Producing Organisation. In a note to the Movie Editor THE SUN’S Sydney correspondent says: “This, it is understood, will lead to a further merger involving big interests throughout Australia and New Zealand. The saving which will be effected on overhead charges, and the fact that film producers of America and the United Kingdom are prepared to negotiate for film rights treating Australia and New Zealand as one market, were among the reasons for the present merger. “The U.F.A., instead of taking capital out of the country in return for its productions, has agreed to leave it here to share in the development of the new concern. Australia and New Zealand capital solely will be used, therefore, in the organisation which has resulted. Lois Moran, who recently broke a long free lance career to sign a Fox Films contract, will soon commence work on her first production under the Fox banner. Miss Moran’s first starring vehicle will be “Publicity Madness,” which will be directed by Albert Ray.
