PRINCESS
GREAT RACING DRAMA The Princess Theatre should enjoy capacity houses during the entire run of “Down the Stretch,” the UniversalJewel racing picture from the story “The Money Rider,” by the late Gerald Beaumont. “Down the Stretch,” under the able direction of King Baggot, who is always at his best when handling a picture of this kind, is one of the most forceful and yet entertaining pictures to be shown here in a long time. It has heart throbs, drama, thrills, romance and pathos and still it does not become too cloyed up and melodramatic. It depicts to a remarkable degree the part of the race meet that the fan in the stand or on the paddock seldom sees, the trials and troubles, the pleasures and play-moments of that motley mob that make up jockeys, trainers, handlers and mere hangerson of the sport of kings. The cast embraces a host of notables headed by Robert Agnew as Jockey Marty Kruger and Marian Nixon as his waitress-sweetheart. Otis Harlan, Ward Crane and Virgina True Boardman play their parts perfectly. “Down the Stretch” is one of the best pictures of the year.
Jules Cowles, one of the cleverest character actors in pictures is to play the famous cartoon character, “Dinty Moore.” in the motion picture version of “Bringing Up Father.” Others announced to play leading roles in this film are Grand Withers, Gertrude 'Olmstead, as the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dinty Moore, J. Farrell MacDonald as Jiggs, and Polly Moran and Marie Dressier, the starring; comedy team, to play the roles of Mrs. Jiggs and Mrs. Dinty Moore, respectively.
