HE DIDN’T FAINT, BUT—
“He asked me what would be a fair thing, and I said '£3oo a year.’ He didn’t faint, but we gave him a drink oIF water.” This was Cr. F. W. H. Brinsden’s description of how he and the Mayer had suggested to the manager of the Broadcasting Company that the broadcasting of the City Band’s weekly concerts was worth paying for. A few days ago the company paid the first instalment of £75 on a £3OO a year contribution for the right to put the concerts on the air.
