CONCRETE ROAD AND TRAMWAY LEVELS

CITY NOT RESPONSIBLE Any suggestion that has been conveyed by speakers at Mount Albert to the effect that the Ctty Council was responsible for differences between concrete and tram-line levels is disputed by the chairman of the Tramways Committee, Cr. J. A. C. Aliura. who states that this is purely an obligation on the local body altering road levels. inv realignment of the tracks is carried out by the department at the expense of the local body, and it. is the duty of that body to advise the department of any such requirements. "It the local bodies want to alter road levels, it cannot be expected that the tramways department will automatically undertake the expense of lowering or lifting tram lines,” remarked Cr. Allum. The Mount Albert proposal is to build up the road from the concrete to the rail level, indemnifying the City Council against damages for accidents, should any occur.
