He appeared with Johnny Hines in a number of the comedian’s previous pictures, but he declares his best opportunity for putting over the kind of comedy he likes is in “Stepping Along,” a tale of New York politics and show life, featuring Mary Brian and the chorus of the “Scandals.” Since Syd Chaplin skyrocketed into fame as the star of “Charley’s Aunt,” he has come to bat twice again, with “The Man on the Box” and “Oh! What a Nurse!” Three hits in succession have consolidated his position as one of the Big Four of comedy makers; the others being brother Charlie, Harold Lloyd and Buster Keaton. “Oh! What a Nurse,” will also be shown at the Empire Theatre to-night.
