AUCKLAND COLLEGE GIRLS VISIT WHANGAREI

BASKETBALL AND HOCKEY CONTESTS

Although driving rain fell incessantly, teams representing Whangarei High School and St. Cuthbert’s College. Auckland, met »in basketball and hockey matches at the Whangarei Old High School grounds on Saturday. In both encounters Whangarei proved easily victorious.

Conditions were all against high scoring in the hockey game, but the High School girls piled on six goals to their opponents’ nil. Scorers for High School were Misses May Sinclair (2), Betty Maxwell, Martha Hayes, Thelma Simons, and Phyllis Wilson. The St. Cuthbert College basketball team was defeated by 18 to 12. Scorers for High School were Misses Nancy Smith (4), Mary Forsyth (3), and Olive Harris (2).. Misses Mavis Landon (5)

and Muriel Cossill threw goals for the visitors.

During their stay in Whangarei the members of the St. Cuthbert teams were billeted out among the Whangarei girls. They returned by the express on Monday after an enjoyable trip.
