SPORTS JOTTINGS FROM WAIHI

With the end of the season in sight, interest in Rugby is beginning to fall off, and Saturday found Waihi without a game in any grade. All club and cup matches set down for decision have been played, leaving Athletics the winners of the senior cup, Waikino the champion junior team, and Waihi reps, the winners of the Poland Cup. With the object of winding up the season with a grand finale, Ponsonby, the Auckland champions, have been asked to send a team to Waihi, and should the request be granted local followers of the game have a treat in store for them. HOCKEY Three teams entered for the ladies’ seven-a-side cup, and the games were played off in torrential rain. On a greasy ground and with slippery sticks, good play was at a discount, but the girls braved the elments, and all

f three games were spiritedly contested. In the first game Rovers beat Ramblers by one goal to nil, a shot from close in by Toni Mair doing the trick. In the second game Western United beat Rovers one to nil, Miss Nisbett being the scorer, and in the final Western United beat Ramblers by 3 to nil, the scorers being Miss Nisbett (2), and Miss Jamieson (1). All the players acquitted themselves weil, but a few stood out ahead of their team-mates, and of these Miss Carter, Miss Nisbett, Miss Delayney, Miss Weedon, Miss Fegan and Miss Morton were the pick. Mr. C. Dunstan refereed all the games. GOLF In the final for the club championship W. Morice beat R. Cullen 8 up and 7 to play. Here again rain interfered with the play, as both players had difficulty in handling their clubs, and the bad light and heavy drizzle made it difficult to follow the flight of the ball. All other match and competition games were postponed.
