“HOUNDING HIM DOWN”
CHARGE AGAINST POLICE GAOL FOR RESISTING CONSTABLE (Special to THE SUN.) CHRISTCHURCH, Monday. “'V7'OU will, of course, know that the police are after a man who has once had a conviction against him, to hound him down and make a criminal of him.” This accusation was made by Donald Lloyd Townsend, who appeared in the Magistrate’s Court today, before Mr. H. A. Young, S.M., on charges of using obscene language and of resisting a constable. The constable said accused, who was under the influence of liquor, used the language complained of when told to go home. “I will give you a go for it,” Townsend said when arrested, and a struggle followed until accused was placed in a taxi. On the first charge accused was sentenced to 14 days’ imprisonment, and on the second charge he was convicted and discharged.
