AVONDALE MEETING

ACCEPTANCES FOR FIRST DAY LARGE FIELDS ENGAGED TWO DIVISIONS IN MAIDEN Acceptances closed yesterday afternoon for the opening day of the spring meeting of the Avondale Jockey Club, to be held at Ellerslie on Saturday and Monday, September 24 and 26. The fields are big all round, and with quality as well as quantity strongly represented, the fixture promises to be a most successful one. The full list of acceptances is as follow 1 : FIRST DAV MAIDEN PLATE Of £270; in two divisions; winner of each

Accommodation Booked W. Pine, of Hawera, has booked up two boxes at J. Shaw’s stables at Ellerslie, and he will probably bring Denier and Seabridge north. S. Reid, of Trentham, will be quartered at the same stable with Chit. Riding Engagements The following additional riding engagements have been announced for the forthcoming Avondale meeting: R„ McTavish, Te Kara, Kingfield, Day Guard, Whaka King, Takarunga and Kingsland. J, Wreghitt, Master Noel. J. Cammick, Delightment, Thursby and Envoy. N. Davis, King Emerald and Golden Krist.

C. Carmont, Bahama, Ototoa and Stonewaill.

On Better Terms When Damaris met and defeated Great Charter and In the Shade by heads in the Wanganui Guineas last week she was meeting them on even terms. In the Avondale Guineas, to come up for decision on Monday w*eek, she comes in on five pounds better terms, for under the conditions fillies are allowed that margin over colts and geldings. In Good Form Town Bird showed such good form when he won the open sprint at Wanganui last Saturday that it is surprising to find him among those that failed to pay up for the opening day of the Avondale meeting. At Wanganui Town Bird was up against some fair sprinters, but he showed them a clean pair of heels, having as much as a six lengths lead, and causing the field to string out before they had gone a couple of furlongs.
