FOREIGN STARS RISE TO FAME

SUCCESS IN SCREENDOM The year just closed saw the rise to success of several foreign actors. Ronald Colman, an Englishman, who has been in America for a longer period, established first place by fine performances in several films. “Stella Dallas,” “Beau Geste,” “Lady Windermere’s Fan.” and the newly released “The "Winning of Barbara Worth,” made from Harold Bell Wright’s novel. In this same picture the lovely Vilma Banky, from Hungary, took several

steps .forward as Barbara. She was previously seen in “The Son of the Sheik,” with Rudolph Valentino, and before that with Colman in “The Dark Angel.” Stardom is ahead for her. Emil Jannings has arrived, but no American - made picture of his has

been released as yet. However, he is to be seen on the screen in several German-made films.

Conrad Veidt, also German, was brought over to play Louis XI. in John Barrymore’s “The Beloved Rogue.” He was the cadaverous killer in “The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari.”
