“BARDELYS THE MAGNIFICENT” Rafael Sabatini has writen some of the most entertaining novels of the present century, and of these ncne is more popular than “Bardelys the Magnificent.” The story of this greatest of love romances is painted with vigour and charm on the broad canvas afforded by the colourful life of Fiance, and the author’s vivid imagination is allowed full play in the tale he unfolds of romance, ad venture, and intrigue. Like Sabatini’s other great novel, “The Sea Hawk.” “Bardelys the Magnificent” has been transferred with marked success to the screen. Produced by Metro-Gold wyn-Mayer, under the direction of King Vidor, the man responsible for “The Big Parade,” “Bardelys the Magnificent” will be shown at the Grand Theatre. This picture proved itself to be one of the; outstanding successes of the present year and it enjoyed an uninterrupted season of six and a-half months at the Astor Theatre, New York. The star player, John Gilbert, as the swashbuckling Bardelys, is credited by the American Press as achieving “nothing short of a genuine triumph.” A particularly strong supporting cast includes Karl Dane, Roy D’Arcy, George K. Arthen and Arthur Lubin.
