WALKED INTO TRAIN
LEVEL-CROSSING ACCIDENT WOMAN KNOCKED DOWN An elderly woman, Mrs. F. Cookson, walked into a train at the Gladstone Road level crossing. Mount Albert, just before noon to-day. The signals were down and the bells were ringing, but Mrs. Cookson did not appear to notice them and walked into the moving engine. She was knocked aside by the train and thrown clear of it. When she was picked up she was unconscious and is suffering from a broken left arm and head injuries. It was a miraculous escape, considering the circumstances. Mrs. Cookson is now in the Auckland Public Hospital, where she was taken by the St. John Ambulance after being treated by Dr. A. O. Knight. The train, which left Auckland at 11.30 o’clock for New Lynn, was not travelling fast at the time of the accident. A witness of the accident said that Mrs. Cookson had gone out to do some shopping. She was walking with her head down. The injured woman resides at the corner of Frederick and Williams Streets, Mount Albert.
