Round the Churches
At St. Matthew’s Church the Sunday School Anniversary and Young People s Day will be held to-morrow. A special children’s service is to be held m the morning, when there will be a parade of Rangers, Guides and Scouts. Mr. Wm. Birss will be the preacher. In the evening Canon Grant Cowen will preach. At the conclusion of the evening service a recital of sacred music will be given by the organist, Mr. J. H. Phillpot, and the choir, assisted by an orchestra. On Sunday, September 25, the 74th anniversary and Patronal Festival will be kept.
The Associated Churches of Christ are holding a special “Youth Week ’ campaign and at all their churches throughout the Dominion the young men will lead the services. In the Auckland circuit the preachers wflll be as follow: —Ponsonby Road: 11 a.m., Messrs. H. Perkins and Ray Vickery; 7 p.m., Messrs. A. Roberts and H. P. Leng. Dominion Road: 11 a.m., Messrs. J. Goodsir and T. Runciman; 7 p.m., Messrs. H. Perkins and Ken Melvin. Onehunga: 11 a.m., Messrs. A. Nettlingham and I. Hay: 7 p.m., Messrs. R Vickery and W. E. Vickery. Avondale: 11 a.m., Messrs. A. Brine and A. Roberts; 7 p.m.. Mr. A. Edwards Richmond: 11 a.m., Messrs. Hill and E. Hanham; 7 p.m., Messrs. E. Hanham and T. J. Bull. Devonport: 11 a.m., Mr. C. Cammell. Mount Albert: 11 a.m., Messrs. Will Vickery and V. Ross. Special united meetings will be held at Ponsonby Road on Wednesday evening and at Avondale on Thursday evening.
An address on “Matter” is to be delivered at the First Church of Christian Scientists. Symonds Street, tomorrow, when the usual services will be held. There will also be a testimony meeting on "Wednesday at 8 p.m.
The address by Mrs. Harris-Roberts at the Spiritual Scientists’ Church. Newton Chambers, to-morrow evening will be on the “Victory of the Spirit.” There will be a children’s service in the afternoon.
The Rev. E. X. Goring is to be the speaker at the Y.M.C.A. men’s meeting to-morrow afternoon at 4.15.
“Kadesh-Barnia” is the subject chosen by the Rev. C. G. Scrimgeour for his address at the evening service of the Methodist Central Mission, in Airedale Street, to-morrow. There will be a special children’s service at 2.30. At the Royal Oak Baptist Church the services are to be taken by Mr. E. Batts in the morning and the Rev. L. B. Busfield in the evening.
