LEAGUE OF NATIONS UNION ANNUAL MEETING HELD “The power of the League of Nations lies in the public opinion which it creates in the different countries,” said Air. E. C. Cutten, S.M., who presided at the annual meeting of the .Auckland branch of the League of Nations Union held last evening. Tho annual report stated that the membership had increased to 292 during the year and there was a credit balance of £2O. The report also expressed regret at the coming departure of Mr. L. A. Mander, director of the Workers’ Educational Association, who had accepted an appointment at Washington University. The following officers were elected:— Patron, His Excellency Sir Charles Fergus? on; vice-patron, Hon. G. Fowlds; president, Mr. E. C. Cutten, S.M.; vicepresidents, Archbishop Averill, the Revs. Lionel Fletcher, L. B. Dalby, W. G. Monckton. and J. Lamb Harvey, Mrs. John Cook, Dr. Mildred Staley, Messrs. T. Blood worth and H. Dearsley; secretary, Mr. F C. Jackson; committee, the Revs. W. Mawson, D. C. Herron, M. Finch, A. Thornhill. W. Lawson Marsh, and H. Ryan, Drs. H. Belshaw and E. P. Neale, Mesdames J. Drearer, C. Neale and Reilly, Messrs. H. S. W. King, Elon Bond, Jun., N. M. Richmond, M. Aldis, J. W. Shaw, Jones, B. Marton and J. W. Kealy. The Rev. W. G. Monckton gave a short address on the Optiontal Clause of the League of Nations Covenant. He mentioned that Germany was the first nation to sign it unconditionally. The Rev. W. Mawson, one of New Zealand’s representatives at the recent conference of the Institute of Pacific Relations, gave a short account of the work done at the conference.
