COMPENSATION CLAIM
BOMBSHELL FOR CAMBRIDGE WATER SUPPLY COMPLICATIONS (Prom Our Own Correspondent.) CAMBRIDGE, To-day. The completion of the gravitation water supply scheme from Maungatautari has not been all plain sailing for the borough council. Under the provisions of the Public Works Act. the council took 4J acres of land in September last year from the owners Messrs. C. H. and C. M. Dean, farmers, Maungatautari. Although negotiations have been proceeding ever since, no finality has been reached between the parties as to the amount to be paid for the land. At the outset the council offered £SOO, but this was not accepted. The matter entered another stage last evening when the council received a claim for compensation from the owners’ Auckland solicitors for a total, amount of £ 5,456 10s, made up as follows: Severance of land, including loss: of facility for subdivision, loss of access and inconvenience in working, £1,750; loss of water, £3,000; loss of shelter and privacy, £450; loss of land, 11 acres, £256 10s, The Mayor said the council would no doubt reject the claim which was out of all reason. The council had been served with a writ and the matter would very probably be ventilated in the Supreme Court- Further considera.tion was deferred to the next council meeting. .
