POORER QUALITY BEEF PIGS EASIER Bigger yardings came forward in practically every section at Westfield yesterday. Prices all round had an easier tendency, though extra prime stock met with keen competition. An average yarding of ox beef sold on a par to slightly easier than last week. Better quality offerings were firm at late rates, though prices for inferior finished lines were slightly easier. The quality generally was considerably lower than late offerings, many dealers* lines coming forward, and light and unfinished cattle were largely in evidence. Top price of £l6 12s 6d was received for a big-framed Hereford beast on account of a. Northern grazier. Extra prime young cows and heifers made values firm at late rates, though inferior sorts were decidedly easier.. Top price of £lO 15s was received for an extra choice pen of heifers. The balance of the offering was light and unfinished, and made from £4 up to about £7. A heavy yarding of sheep met with a strong demand and values, though the market opened slightly below last week’s parity, improved to be maintained mostly at late rates. Big-framed wethers, prime but not exceptionally fat, made to 43s 6d; unfinished wethers made from 28s to 335; shorn fat wethers made to 27s 6d. A yarding of approximately 20 spring lambs met with keen competition and sold at rates on a par with late sales. Heavy prime lambs made to 31s, medium to 28s 3d. light 1.0 25s 6d. A heavy yarding of pigs met with prices generally easier than last week. Medium prime choppers made£2 19s to £4 8s; (no extra heavy were penned): extra heavy prime baconers, up to £4; heavy prime baconers, £3 10s to £3 13s; medium, £3 6s to £3 8s; light, £3 2s to £3 ss; heavy porkers, £2 16s to £3; medium, i: 2 12s to £2 14s; light, £2 5s to £2 10s; small and unfinished, £1 18s to £2 6s. Store pigs were in request, best making up to £2 Is; smaller, £1 16s to £1 19s; small stores and good slips, £1 7s to £1 14s: weaners, 17s to £1 3s.
