ADRIFT IN A LAUNCH

A 50ft. launch, which left Wanganui on Wednesday week with a crew of four, including the owner, Mr. Bowman, and three Maoris, Hapl Hogg, Wire Heremaia, and T. Potaka, experienced engine trouble and drifted down the coast, eventually making Kapiti Island on Sunday with the crew almost starving. The men received attention from residents there, and the engines were put. right. A start was made on the return journey on Monday, but engine trouble was again experienced. After some difficulty the vessel made Foxton under sails on Tuesday morning, where the engines will be completely overhauled prior to making the last stage of the trip back to Wanganui. For three days and three nights tne four men were without food or water. Their sufferings were not made any easier by the rough weather which was experienced.
