The last six furlongs were left behind in 1.25. Marble Boy took 55 1-5 for four furlongs, the last three being accomplished in 41 1-5. Tydal, with Nucleus as a companion, covered five furlongs in 1.10. The first furlong was timed at 14, and the concluding three furlongs at 42 4-5. Valentino, vigorously ridden at the finish, was doing his best to get over half a mile in 55. Stormfiend gave Double Mint a start and then beat her home over four furlongs in 55 1-5. The first-named was under a pull at the finish. Areheno was not hustled over the first two of five furlongs, but she moved freely to go the remaining three in 43. Cullgie was timed to do five furlongs in 1.14 4-5, the final three furlongs being cleared in 44 4-5. Whaka King and Fiery Lad finished on terms ahead of Cynthian N. in a bout over five furlongs, taking 1.7 1-5. The first quarter mile was covered in 26 3-5, and the last three furlongs in 40 3-5. Scott Free gave Challenge a break and then finished in front of her over three furlongs, taking 40 T-5, • HORSE THAT LIKES ELLERSLIE Hoariri paid a visit from Mangere, and though he looked to be on the big side skipped over three furlongs in 41 2-5. Automne was timed to leave five furlongs? behind in 1.7, after cutting out the first two in 27 1-5. 'Diamond Queen and Master Clements registered 54 for half a mile. Rahepoto, Master Doon and Kamehameha were on terms in front of Vice Versa at the conclusion of a round. They left the last five furlongs behind in 1.11 4-5. THE SAND Scaramouche and Valsier were companions over four furlongs, taking 56. They ran the last three in 42 3-5. Tov.n Guard was doing it nicely at the conclusion of a six furlong workout, running the last half mile in 53 3-5. Vital was in front of Honeheke at the finish of four furlongs in 56. The first-named was not extended to get over the final three furlongs in 42. THE JUMPERS Spalmoor, who gave an indifferent showing when schooled over three hurdles on Tuesday, was seen in a better light this morning, when given a lesson over two of the pony obstacles. He got in a little close at the first, but cleared the next one well. E. Stanway was in the saddle. Glenotus (J. Sharkey) and Master Arch (G. Holland) gave a nice exhibition of jumping over four hurdles. Quinvardia in an attempt over two hurdles gave her pilot, J. Sharkey, a rough ride. She scrambled over the first and crashed heavily at the next. On appearances it looks as if Quinvardia will need a lot of education to become proficient as a hurdler.

JOTTINGS Tanareri, the two-year-old fullbrother to Hoariri, has been added to the list. Bert Cowan has decided to set up as a trainer on his own account, and will shift into stables at Ellerslie next month. He will occupy the premises at one time owned by W. Smith. Cohesion and Metonic, the first of the visitors to arrive, have not been asked to do anything serious. The firstnamed was given long, slow work on the sand this morning, while Metonic was exercised lightly on the two-year-old track. Cohesion looks well, but his companion appears to move a little short and probably did not do too well on 1. is trip North. J. H. Jefferd has engaged four boxes at E. Rae’s stable at .Green Lane. He will probably be bringing Star Stranger, Joy King, ICnightlike and either Star God or Clone. TROTTING CUP TO-DAY’S PAYMENT THREE HORSES DROP OUT (Special to THE SUN.) CHRISTCHURCH, To-day.
