Travelling in July to NeAV Zealand from Australia, Ed\A-ard Charles ToAA'nsend, alias XeA'ille, aged 28, met an Auckland lady AA'hom he married on arrival? In that city he lived at a fashionable hotel, paying Avith valueless cheques. Then he deserted his Avife at Frankton and came to Wellington, Avhere he stayed at the Grand Hotel. There he stole from one boarder binoculars, some clothing and a cheque book; and from another a suit. He paid the licensee’s Avife AA’ith a A r alueless cheque for £ls, and Avent South, but he was arrested in Christchurch. In Court here to-day he got nine months and Avas also remanded to appear at Auckland next week on a charge of issuing a Aralueless cheque there.
