THE WRONG DIET

A BEGGAR’S ERROR CHOOSES BEER—GETS GAOL If Alexander Mellis;, aged 64, had bought a meal last night instead of a pint of beer, he would not have been in gaol for the next three months. He was charged at the Police Court to-day with being idle and disorderly and begging alms. Senior-Sergeant Edwards said that accused had got money from two men on condition that he spent it on a meal. They followed him, and saw him go into an hotel. He was arrested with a p nt pot of beer in his hand. Mellis, who has a long list, was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment.
