BUSES FOR TE ATATU AND FERNDALE
SERVICES DISCONTINUED SUGGESTIONS WANTED WE will assist Te Atatu and Ferndale in any way we can, if they can make any feasible suggestion as to feeder bus or car services,” said Mr. J. A. C. Allum, chairman of the Tramways Committee, this morning. “In fact, we can even sell them a bus fairly cheap—almost give it to them.” The services to these two areas will cease in a day or two. The council found that it was losing too heavily on them, the roads being bad and the number of passengers insufficient. On the Te Atatu road for 3J miles at the end of the service there were only 36 houses, and on the Ferndale route only 46 houses. The committee intends to allow only feeder services under any scheme that might be adopted. Concession ticket requests on these runs were very infrequent. In one week Ferndale required one concession card. In another it improved to three workers’ tickets and four concession. Te Atatu traffic was heavier, but varied. One week 21 workers’, 11 concession and 3 apprentice tickets were issued. In another there were 16 for workers’ and 10 for apprentice. It is reported that a community car has started operations on the Ferndale route and Te Atatu Is also doing its best to solve its difficulty.
