Newspaper Strike
EMPLOYERS FIRM A COMPOSITE PAPER By Cable. —Press Association. —Copyright Reed. 9.5 a.m. PERTH, To-day. Another member of the staff of the newspaper “West Australian” was arrested for refusing to pay a fine. As the Newspaper Proprietors’ Association declined to give an assurance that there would he no more arrests, the men declined to work and said there would be no publication of the paper. The Proprietors’ Association then decided to issue a composite" paper under the title “Daily News Westralian.” This has been done, and will be continued till job control is defeated. —A. and|N.Z. A cablegram received of Monday read as follows: —Because two members of the union refused to pay the fines which were imposed on them as a result of the strike of the mechanical staff of the newspaper “West Australian,” they were arrested and detained, to serve a sentence of three days’ imprisonment. The mechanical staff of the paper held a stopwork meeting and adjourned for 24 hours. Later they returned to work.
