MAKING CHARCOAL

HPHIS is a hint on an ingenious method of making charcoal: Take a syrup tin and make a small hole in the lid. Fill the tin with chips of wod, and replace the lid. Then push the tin into a fire. Soon vapour will come from the hole in the lid, and this will probably catch alight. When this flow of gas has entirely ceased, take the tin from the fire with a pair of tongs, and put it on one side to cool. Inside the tin will be found excellent charcoal, which one can use for banishing smells in the sink and absorbing other odours. It can also be used for putting between two pieces of linen on burns, sores, etc.
