Sixth Candidate for Raglan Election

MR. C. A. MAGNER CHOSEN FARMER AND SOLDIER \ NOTHER candidate has been * announced for the Raglan by-election. This is Mr. C. A. Magner. of Te Kowhai. who will stand in the interests of the Country Party. The candidature of Mr. Magner, who was selected by the Ra ;lan Country Party convention at Ngi.ru&wahia, to contest the coming by-election, was endorsed yesterday by the Central Committee, which met al Hamilton. Mr. Magner is a typkal New Zealand small-holier from Te Kowhai. where he was horn and where he has lived all his life, with the exception of over four years’ service with the Expeditionary Force. He is 37 years of age and is secretary- of the Te Kowhai branch of the Farmers’ I’nion. and has been p resident for two years, as well as delegate to the Waikato executive for three years. He has been chairman of the Te Kowhai Hall Committee. A pen picture of the candidate, contributed to THE SUN. states: “The new aspirant is a big, strong man, with an extremely forceful personality. and is a fluent speaker. He is fairly well-known in the electorate, having done a good deal of contract work before the war. and is, of course, well-known to the returned soldiers of the district. His popularity in his own neighbourhood is well attested. Mr. Magner is only recently married. He was selected tinder the preferential system of voting, to which the Country Party is pledged.” MR. FOW WILL NOT STAND (From Our Otrit Corrrspondeut) HAMILTON, To-day. Mr. J. R. Fow, Mayor of Hamilton, announces definitely that he will not be standing in the interests of any part}’.
