GUMTREE WEEVIL
PARASITES TO COMBAT TWO BEING IMPORTED (THE SUN'S Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, To-day. Preparations are now being made for the establishment in New Zealand this spring of parasites to combat gum tree weevil, which is doing damage to : gum trees in the Thames Valley' and surrounding districts. Recently Mr. A. M. Samuel and the Thames Valley Electric-Power Board made representations to the Minister of Agriculture, who stated to-day that 1 two parasites that will be invaluable , have been found in Australia. These were sent to Africa, where the weevil . was also doing great damage. The reports show great possibilities, and : the South African authorities readily : agreed to send supplies of the parasite to New Zealand at an early date.
