PRINCESS
“THE KID BROTHER” Harold Lloyd celebrates his fifth year as a producer of feature length comedies bj- giving his legion of followers
“The Kid Brother,” which ranks high among his finest , contributions. In this work Lloyd again destrates his complete grasp on the answer to that eternal problem: “What does the public want?” If ; past successes j count for aught, ! the bespectacled ; comedian knows
| exactly what his public demands, because in the. five years that have elapsed since; that immortal classic, “Grandma’s Boy,” he has made one continuous string of successes. In “The Kid Brother,” Harold’s latest Paramount release, which is being shown at the Princess Theatre, he is .said to have another of those surefire laugh-getters, reminiscent in theme of “Grandma’s Boy.” with its inferiority complex theme. If it were only half as goed as that production it would still be a knockout. Lloyd’s five-year record is one which defies comparison from any source. Starting with “‘Grandma’s Boy,” he produced “Dr. Jack,” “Safety Last,” “Why Worry?” “Girl Shy,” “Hot Water,” “College Days,” and “For Heaven’s Sake.” For the last three years, beginning with “Girl Shy,” he has been producing independently. Basically, Lloyd’s success in the feature comedy field may be summed up in his own lew words: “Make them funny, but keep them human.” He led the wa.y out of the rut of old comedy hokum by giving the screen stories that ha.d logic and reason, not just a hodge- i podge of slapstick. “The Kid Brother” is also being shown at Everj'body’s a.nd the Tivoli Theatres.
