WHANGAREI REST ROOM
FORMAL OPENING The Mayor of Whangarei, Mr. L. J. Brake, who presided at the opening, in Central Park on Saturday, of the new women’s rest-room, which also incorporates offices for the Plunket nurse and an up-to-date dental clinic, said that the success of the movement, sponsored by his predecessor in office, was largely due to the Plunket Society.
On behalf of the Plunket Society, Mr. A. J. Murdoch said they wished particularly to thank Mr. D. A. McLean, who had been instrumental in providing the first rest-room in James Street, and the public generally for its responses to the appeals. Mr. J. Jones, M.P., said he did not believe in eliminating voluntary effort entirely, but they called upon the women to do too much begging. It would be far better to raise the money required by a rate. Mr. Jones extended congratulations on behalf of the Minister of Health, the Hon. J. A. Young, and then opened the door with a gold key.
