N.Z. CUP TRIAL

STIRRING CONTEST TO BE STAGED BY CUP AND NON-CUP HORSES

The field of 16 originally listed For the New Zealand Cup Trial, to be staged at Wellington next Saturday, has been reduced to 10, which is quite large enough to ensure a well-run race. When the entries were summarised previously there were 10 New Zealand Cup aspirants, and six nonstarters, in the big November heat engaged. With the latest shuffling of the cards, three of the Cup nominees, in Audacious, Man o’ War, and Ahuriri, dropped out, while of the opposition Bessie Logan and the Tomkinson bracket, Concliffa and Bell Harold, are the absentees. This leaves Black Admiral, Queen’s Own. Sea Pearl, Jack Potts, Acron, Peter Bingen, and Prince Pointer to represent the 4.28 or better two-milers, while Talent, St. Maura, and Holly Boy will make an effort to keep the guns out of the money. A SMART PAIR As far as Holly Boy is concerned, he will not appeal to the public, although he is one of those customers that should he take it into his head might upset the calculations. Talent and St. Maura, as mentioned in THE SUN when the handicaps appeared, are entitled to the greatest respect, and if any of the Cup candidates wish to

get the thick end of the purse they will require to put their very best paces on. Black Admiral will be one Of the latter division to make a bold bid for the honour, and Queen’s Own went a good race over this distance at Addington last month. A ERILLIANT PACER

Jack Potts will be one of the chief selections for the event, and he is such a brilliant gentleman that he cannot fail to piake his presence felt in the field. The three behind him are all speedy, but in trying to concede the American-bred gent a second Peter Bingen, Prince Pointer, and Acron are set ‘ a stiff proposition. Talent. St. Maura, Great Bingen, and Jack 1 otts look like being accorded the most support on the day.
